As an advisory partner in the Interreg Europe Green Hydra project, our team from Economic aspect joined consortium members from 10 different regions across Europe in Sevilla, Spain, for the 6th interregional meeting. The event was organised by the Chamber of Commerce of Seville and took place in parallel with the European Hydrogen Energy Conference (EHEC) 2026.
The conference provided valuable opportunities to expand technical knowledge, connect with key stakeholders across the hydrogen sector, and explore emerging business opportunities. These themes strongly align with Green Hydra’s mission to strengthen the conditions for SMEs to enter and grow within the green hydrogen value chain.
A key highlight of the programme was the policy‑exploration session featuring the board game developed by the Economic Aspects of Energy Transition team, led by Wytze van der Gaast, together with Steffen Eriksen, Rob van Dorssen and Jiabao Li.
As our contribution to the consortium, the board game helps partners explore policy pathways, analyse system bottlenecks, and identify opportunities to improve regional policy instruments. The session generated lively discussions and inspired new ideas on how regions can better support SMEs in adopting green hydrogen technologies.
The program also included technical site visits to innovative hydrogen initiatives in Andalusia, including H2B2, a leading developer of hydrogen production technologies, and the La Isla H2 Hub, an emerging innovation centre supporting the deployment of hydrogen solutions. These visits provided first‑hand insights into regional industrial developments and potential collaboration opportunities.
Looking ahead, the next interregional Green Hydra meeting will be hosted by our organisation in Groningen, with the programme led by Wytze and his team.
The focus of this meeting will be policy learning andsupport, specifically:
By contributing tools that support strategic learning and policy development, Wytze and his team continue to add value to the shared efforts of the 10 Green Hydra regions in strengthening innovation ecosystems and advancing an effective and inclusive energy transition for SMEs across Europe.
